The backstory
Ink is a design journal focused on the people and culture of print. Co-editors Nick Mrozowski and Krissi Xenakis collaborate with designers, photographers, illustrators and other creatives from around the world to create each location-based issue. It all started in September in Denver at the Society for News Design’s annual workshop and exhibition. We designed the first issue, with help from our third editor, Carrie Hoover, on-site with participation from workshop attendees. Then we printed and distributed it at the end of the conference. It was so much fun we decided to take the show on the road with our first stop being Detroit.
From January 6-12, we worked out of the Detroit Media Partnership offices, where we edited and designed 36 pages celebrating design people and their stories to be distributed to creative people around the world. Besides producing the second issue, we also visited some Detroit landmarks, invited local creatives to a hands-on mash-up session and finished up with a launch party in The D on January 13th.

Who we are
A pair of visual journalists who still love print. Between the two of us we have designed for newspapers (including college, alternative, metropolitan and European titles). We love paper so much that both of our houses should probably be designated fire hazards. We also like to tweet.
Support and details
The Detroit News, Free Press and Detroit Media Partnership donated facilities, support and printing for the Winter issue.
Font Bureau generously donated the use of the typefaces Zocalo, Farnham, Antenna and Casey (check out the logo), which you can find throughout this issue of Ink. If you are interested in licensing these or other Font Bureau typefaces please visit fontbureau.com or call 617-423-8770.

The small print
Ink is an independent design journal, produced at least two times per year by Nick Mrozowski and Krissi Xenakis. Our collaborators generously donate their time and work on a volunteer basis to create the stories and images included in each issue. Each issue is produced during a multiple day on-site exercise in a different city, involving members of the local design and creative community. We will pursue strategic partnerships, donations and sell advertising in order to cover the costs of printing and distributing each issue, as well as the costs associated with production (travel, marketing and promotion, postage, and other expenses). Copies of the Winter issue will be distributed in our host city of Detroit at the launch party on January 13th, and we are pursuing other avenues of distributing the publication nationally and internationally after the launch. The Detroit News, Free Press and Detroit Media Partnership has generously agreed to donate facilities, support and printing for the Winter issue.
